TL;DR: An indoor lint box does not turn a vented dryer into a ventless dryer. AHAM recommends exhausting dryers outdoors unless they are condenser models designed for unvented use. If your dryer currently empties into an indoor box, have its exact installation requirements checked before continuing to use that arrangement.
A lint collector and a condenser handle different things
The question is where the moisture goes. A vented dryer carries water vapor out with its exhaust. Sending that exhaust through an indoor lint collector still brings moisture into the house. The DOE Building America guide advises against devices that collect lint while returning dryer heat indoors because they add unwanted moisture.
A purpose-built ventless condenser dryer removes moisture inside the machine. In GE's explanation, moist process air passes through a condenser; the extracted water goes to a tank or an external drain. That water-handling system is part of the appliance. An accessory attached to an exhaust outlet does not establish that the dryer has it.
Check the dryer before shopping for an indoor kit
Read the exact model's installation instructions for its exhaust requirements. Ask the manufacturer or a qualified installer about an unclear setup before buying accessories.
GE specifically does not recommend third-party indoor venting and lint-trap kits for GE and Hotpoint dryers. Its concerns include lint around electrical parts and moisture damage. GE also states that gas dryers must exhaust outdoors. An indoor box is not a workaround for a gas dryer's exhaust requirement.
For an electric dryer, a seller's “electric only” wording is not approval for your model. Follow its installation instructions and applicable local requirements. This guide does not determine whether a particular installation meets them.
Where lint-cleaning tools fit
Cleaning an approved exhaust path and choosing an approved exhaust path are separate jobs. The GOHALL vacuum attachment and lint brush kit is intended for loose lint in accessible openings. It cannot convert a dryer, filter its exhaust for indoor use, or correct the installation. Before accessible cleaning, turn off and unplug the dryer; check the kit's actual vacuum connection and never force it into tight bends or inaccessible blockages.
For a dryer already designed to run without an outdoor exhaust, see which maintenance tasks apply to a ventless dryer. If an outdoor route is appropriate but its materials need attention, use our dryer duct materials guide alongside the model's installation instructions.
Questions about indoor dryer venting
Does collecting visible lint prove the indoor exhaust is suitable?
No. Visible lint collection does not resolve where the exhaust moisture goes. The installation still needs to match the dryer's requirements.
Do ventless dryers still need a way to remove water?
Yes. For GE's ventless condenser dryers, condensed water goes into a removable tank or through the specified drain connection. Follow the exact model's instructions for that arrangement.
