Take six measurements before ordering

Check the duct material against your dryer manual

This is the most important compatibility gate. The Gohall kit currently includes a three-layer aluminum foil hose. Some dryer manufacturers expressly prohibit metal-foil venting and require a 4-inch heavy metal vent. Whirlpool installation instructions, for example, say not to use plastic or metal-foil vent and limit acceptable flexible metal transition duct. Maytag likewise advises checking the instructions for the exact dryer before choosing vent material.

That means the included hose is not automatically suitable for every dryer. Read the installation instructions for your model and any local requirements before installation. If those instructions prohibit foil venting, do not use the included hose; ask the manufacturer or a qualified installer which approved 4-inch transition duct can be used with the coupling. Do not treat a seller's general material description as a substitute for appliance-specific venting requirements.

Also inspect the existing route. The U.S. Fire Administration advises checking that the vent behind the dryer is not damaged, crushed, or restricted. A magnetic connector cannot make torn, kinked, contaminated, or incorrectly routed ducting acceptable.

Prepare and connect the coupling responsibly

Follow the instructions supplied with the product and the dryer. For the current Gohall straight kit, the visible installation sequence is:

  1. Disconnect power and obtain safe access. Let the appliance cool. Follow the dryer manual before moving it. Do not strain an electrical cord, water connection, or gas line.
  2. Clean and inspect the reachable vent ends. Remove dry loose lint only with an appropriate tool. Stop if the wall outlet is loose, corroded, crushed, or detached inside the wall.
  3. Mount the wall-side coupling. Center it on the straight wall outlet and use fasteners suited to the mounting surface. Do not drill until you know what is behind the wall.
  4. Secure the transition duct. The product directions call for clamping the hose to the hose-side magnetic adapter and to the dryer outlet. Keep each clamp square and tight enough to hold without deforming the connection.
  5. Guide the dryer back slowly. Watch the hose path and stop before it folds, twists, or catches. The magnetic halves should meet and self-align; they should not be forced together from a severe angle.

If this is a gas dryer, do not move the appliance or work around the connection if you could strain the gas line. The USFA recommends professional dryer installation and service. Check the connection before the next load

Before restoring power, use a flashlight from the side and confirm that the coupling halves are fully seated, both clamps remain in position, and the transition duct is supported without a sharp fold. Count all tools and remove them from behind the dryer.

Run the dryer briefly according to the appliance instructions, then observe the exterior hood from a safe location. The USFA says the outdoor vent covering should open while the dryer operates. Listen for rattling and check for a connection that visibly separates or a hose that pulls tight. Do not reach behind a running appliance.

Use a familiar normal load as a practical performance check. If drying time is still longer than usual, the outdoor flap barely moves, or the room becomes unusually hot, stop treating the connector as the whole problem. The exhaust route may still be restricted, disconnected, or poorly configured.

Understand what a magnetic connection can and cannot do

The legitimate benefit is access: once correctly installed in a compatible straight setup, a magnetic coupling can make the final wall connection easier to separate and realign when the dryer needs to move. It may reduce the hand work required in a narrow gap.

It does not clean the vent, guarantee an airtight system, correct an excessive offset, replace an elbow, prove code compliance, or make a prohibited duct material acceptable.
