TL;DR: On GE Profile UltraFast Combo washer/dryers, 353 or F353 points to the lint-filter assembly; 18 points to the drain-pump filter. Both can accompany longer drying times. Record the code and exact model before choosing a filter. Turn the Combo off and unplug it, or disconnect its circuit, before hands-on care; the Power button alone does not disconnect electricity.
F353: start with the two-stage lint filter
GE says 353 most often means fabric-softener residue has clogged the lint filter. Its Combo fault-code guidance directs owners to clean that assembly. Removing visible fluff may leave a coating in the mesh.
Match the assembly you actually have. GE's current U.S. manual for the PFQ97HS/PFQ83HS families describes two mesh filters; its filter-cleaning instructions also cover a mesh-and-foam version. Pull the frame out slowly and use its release tab. Remove loose lint by hand. For coated mesh, gently wash both sides and the frame with warm water and a soft-bristle brush, then rinse. With two mesh filters, clean both.
Dry the mesh filters and frame thoroughly before reassembly. If your assembly has GE's foam filter, rinse that foam with warm running water; GE specifically permits reinserting it wet. Align it with the locating tabs and replace damaged foam. Never run the Combo with filters missing.
18: check the water-drainage side
Code 18 calls for cleaning the pump filter. GE also lists very wet loads after washing and longer drying times, and says a drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe can interfere with drainage. Check your model's drain-hose installation instructions too.
With the Combo off and power disconnected, follow the pump-filter procedure: put a shallow pan below the access door and towels on the floor, lower the drain spout, and loosen the filter counterclockwise slowly to control retained water. Remove debris, refit the filter securely clockwise, raise the spout and close the door. A clog can release additional water. If access is unclear, the filter will not turn, or the problem remains after the prescribed checks, stop and arrange service.
A vacuum belongs in the dry lint opening
GE permits a vacuum crevice attachment inside the lint-filter opening. Keep it away from the sharp evaporator fins to the right. On the disconnected Combo, use suction only for reachable, dry loose lint; keep the vacuum away from wash water and the pump-filter opening.
The GOHALL Clear View vacuum attachment may serve that limited task if its nozzle fits freely and its connection matches your vacuum. Follow the complete Method A or Method B assembly; fit is model-dependent. Do not force the nozzle into tight bends or inaccessible areas. It does not clear the drain pump, repair a fault or replace washing a coated filter. For the broader tool distinction, see ventless-dryer tool fit.
FAQ
Does dismissing the SmartHQ warning fix F353?
No. GE says DISMISS removes the lint-filter notification until the condition is detected again. Use the cleaning guidance that matches your filter assembly. If the warning returns after correct care, contact GE service with the model and code.
