Dryer Vent Cleaning

Magnetic Dryer Vent Connector: Will a 4-Inch Kit Fit?

A straight magnetic connector needs workable outlet alignment, rear clearance and mounting support. Check the transition material separately against the dryer’s instructions.

TL;DR: A straight magnetic dryer vent connector needs matching four-inch outlets, workable alignment, a sound mounting surface and enough rear space for a supported transition. The transition material must also meet your dryer's requirements. Measure the final installation space before ordering; matching outlet diameter alone does not establish fit.

Measure outlets, alignment and final rear clearance

GOHALL's straight 180-degree coupling is designed for a standard four-inch system and a straight wall outlet. It does not replace an angled elbow. The kit lists a wall-side magnetic coupling, dryer-side adapter, 3.1-foot hose, two adjustable clamps, four screws and four wall anchors. Compare the whole arrangement with your dryer's instructions.

Measurement What to record
Dryer outlet Diameter of the actual metal outlet, without treating an old clamp or flattened hose as the measurement
Wall outlet Diameter and enough sound material for a secure connection
Center alignment Both horizontal and vertical offsets between the two outlets
Usable rear depth Space in the final dryer position for coupling, clamps, a gentle hose curve, connections, shutoff access and required clearance
Transition length The actual route compared with the listed 3.1-foot hose, without sagging slack or pulling it tight
Mounting support A flat, sound, accessible area and fasteners suitable for the wall construction

If the outlet turns up, down or sideways, requires a tight elbow, has a different diameter or cannot be inspected, choose another approved arrangement. A straight connector can tolerate only the offset that fits without flattening or sharply bending the transition. Ask support before purchase when any measurement remains uncertain.

Check whether the dryer permits the supplied foil hose

The GOHALL kit includes an aluminum foil hose. Some dryer manuals prohibit metal-foil venting and require four-inch heavy metal venting. Whirlpool's referenced installation instructions prohibit plastic and metal foil; Maytag directs owners to the exact dryer instructions. The kit's listing does not override those requirements or local rules.

If your manual prohibits foil, do not use the included hose. Ask the manufacturer or a qualified installer which approved four-inch transition can work with the coupling. Have existing torn, kinked, loose or poorly routed ducting corrected; a magnetic connection will not repair it.

Install and inspect the connection in the final dryer position

Disconnect power and let the dryer cool before permitted access. Do not strain cords, water connections or a gas line. A loose, corroded or crushed wall outlet needs service instead of mounting hardware. Clean only safely reachable dry vent ends.

Use the kit and dryer directions for mounting, with fasteners appropriate for the surface and knowledge of what is behind the wall before drilling. Clamp the approved transition securely without deforming it. Guide the appliance back slowly while watching for folds, twists or snagged connections. The magnetic halves should meet without being forced together at a severe angle.

Before restoring power, inspect from the side with a flashlight: both halves must be seated, clamps must remain in place, and the supported duct must have no sharp fold. Account for all tools. Qualified help is needed where moving the dryer could strain a gas line, mounting support is uncertain or the wall connection moves under light pressure.

Use the manual's brief operation check and observe the exterior hood safely. Watch for rattling, separation or a hose pulling tight, without reaching behind a running machine. Longer drying, weak hood movement or an unusually hot room can mean restriction, disconnection or poor configuration. The coupling does not guarantee an airtight installation or establish code compliance.

Compare your measurements with the straight magnetic coupling kit details. Conflicting material instructions, roof or hidden routes, inaccessible connections and persistent weak airflow need the appropriate qualified service. Inspect the joint and transition again after the dryer moves.

Connector fit questions

Can the magnetic coupling replace a 90-degree elbow?

The straight 180-degree kit is not an angled-elbow replacement. A route requiring a tight change of direction needs another arrangement approved for the dryer and available space.

Are the included wall anchors suitable for any wall?

Wall construction and mounting support determine the correct fastener. Use the approved kit method with appropriate hardware, and get help if the support or concealed area is uncertain.

Will the coupling prevent the duct from being crushed?

It cannot compensate for inadequate rear space. Preserve the required clearance and supported transition shape as the appliance moves back, then inspect the final connection.
