Coffee Maker Cleaning

Breville Barista Express Grinder Cleaning: Where to Start

Coffee-maker tablets follow the brewer’s approved water path. Check the machine’s owner-care instructions before putting cleaner near its grinder.

TL;DR: The built-in grinder and brewer water path need separate care. Use the machine's approved grinder instructions. GOHALL reservoir-cleaning directions do not authorize grinding a tablet, soaking burrs or forcing a stuck part.

Locate the problem before choosing a cleaner

Record whether the grinder starts, whether grounds reach the basket and whether the problem appeared after removing or adjusting a part. A photograph of the controls and the model number is more useful for support than assuming that every change in output means old coffee residue.

In its grinder-care guidance, Breville explains that retained coffee particles can compact and obstruct the mechanism. Cleaning follows the grinder's type and model; a whole espresso machine can have separate maintenance jobs for its coffee and water paths.

Check the BES870 hopper

The BES870 USCM manual links flashing FILTER SIZE lights to hopper fit. Switch POWER off, unplug and cool before checking debris and re-locking it. Missing beans, blockage or moisture can also prevent grounds from emerging.

Use the exact model's controls and diagrams. A shared brand name does not establish identical owner access or reassembly.

The BES870 brush routine

  1. With power off and unplugged, empty the hopper, then refit and lock it with its lid on.
  2. Reconnect and switch on with water in the tank; run the grinder empty, keeping hands and utensils away. Switch off, unplug and cool. Remove the hopper; turn the upper burr counterclockwise toward ALIGN and lift it out.
  3. Dry-brush both burrs and the chute, keeping fingers clear of sharp edges and water out of the chamber. Refit and lock the dry upper burr and hopper, lid on, before reconnecting.

Lower-burr disassembly addresses an outlet blockage. Follow the BES870's exact order; keep it off and contact Breville if parts will not release. Do not force them or open internal panels.

Keep brewer cleaner out of the grinder

GOHALL Coffee Maker Cleaner Tablets use a fully dissolved tablet in a compatible brewer's water reservoir, followed by the directed fresh-water rinses. The current listing gives no grinder-cleaning method. Its espresso instructions require checking the approved reservoir cleaner and procedure; backflushing requires separate explicit approval.

The GOHALL compatibility and rinse guide covers that water-path treatment after permission is established. Check your machine's approved reservoir procedure before using any cleaner. The shower-screen guide covers the exposed brewing surface, which is another separate job.

A question about a stuck grinder

Can a coffee-maker tablet free a burr that will not turn?

GOHALL's reservoir directions do not authorize putting cleaner into the hopper, soaking burrs or freeing a mechanical bind. Keep the machine off and use manufacturer support when an approved removable part will not release.
