How to Clean the Dryer Lint-Trap Housing Safely

Remove lint from the housing track and rim only within the model’s approved access. A screen that will not seat or lint behind guards needs a different response.

Set the lint-slot access limit before cleaning

Turn the dryer off, let it cool and disconnect power as the manual directs before reaching beyond the screen. If you cannot safely isolate power, leave tools out. Inspect the removed screen in good light and use its care instructions for torn mesh, warping or coating.

A flashlight should show the nozzle or brush's path. Choose a secure narrow vacuum attachment or purpose-made flexible lint brush that moves freely. Coat hangers, knives and screwdrivers can snag, scratch, break or leave a part inside. Keep guards and panels in place even if a tool would fit past them.

Draw reachable lint back toward the opening

Vacuum loose material at the rim with a steady nozzle. If an approved brush fits freely, use slow strokes on the reachable sides and bottom and draw it back to collect fibers. Avoid jamming the tool into the slot or pushing lint deeper. The tool comparison explains suction and light brushing.

Wipe screen rails and the frame by the model's method. Poor seating can let lint pass around the edges. Treat coating on the mesh separately, dry the screen fully and reinstall it securely. Never run the dryer without its screen.

Cabinet lint beyond the housing needs qualified service

Packed material beyond the reachable housing or an interior grille belongs with qualified service. Deeper access can expose electrical, heating, gas and moving components. Keep front, rear and side panels closed unless you are qualified and following the manufacturer's service procedure.

Stop for burning odor, unusual heat, a stopped drum, a new scraping sound or restricted airflow. Much longer drying, lint at the outside outlet or an exterior flap that barely opens can indicate a wider exhaust problem. Arrange inspection instead of reaching farther through the screen slot. Clear the screen before and after every load. Check its housing when the rim looks fuzzy or the screen stops sliding smoothly, using the owner procedure. The wall exhaust is a separate area: flexible rods belong in a known, compatible duct route.

Inspect the screen for warping or damage and use the model's replacement or repair guidance. Do not run the dryer with a loose screen or force it past a damaged part.
