TL;DR: Ice melting in a countertop ice maker's basket can be normal. On models with nonfreezing storage, ice gradually melts and the water can return for new batches. Transfer ice to a freezer if you need to save it. A new drop in ice production, persistent warning or leak needs the model's troubleshooting guidance.
Why an insulated basket can still let ice melt
A full basket at bedtime can be a smaller pile by morning without the machine having failed. The important distinction is whether your model makes fresh ice or also provides frozen storage.
Newair's countertop bullet-ice guidance describes fresh batches rather than freezer storage. Ice melts and the water recirculates. Its AI-100 series listing explains that an insulated compartment slows the loss of cold, while melted ice drains back into the machine for the next batch. Insulated does not mean a freezer.
Check that description for your own machine. Do not assume every standalone ice maker has the same storage system, and do not confuse this with an ice maker inside a refrigerator or freezer.
Check fresh ice before treating the machine
Look at newly made ice, not just the ice that has been sitting in the basket. Normal batches that gradually shrink point toward a storage limitation. Much smaller batches than usual, repeated interruptions or no new ice call for a different check.
The Newair AI-100SS manual, for example, lists high room or water temperature among the possible reasons for small cubes. It also notes that initial batches may be smaller when the machine is first used. Its placement instructions keep the appliance level, away from direct sun and heat sources, with space around its vents. Use your model's required clearance and operating conditions.
If a cycle appears to run normally but produces no ice, that manual identifies possible cooling-system faults that need a qualified technician. Keep the housing closed. Do not scrape cooling surfaces, reach near the evaporator during operation or keep adding cleaner to a machine that cannot freeze water.
A persistent “Add Water” light with a full reservoir is another distinct problem. Follow the matching owner checks instead of assuming that melting proves a pump or sensor has failed.
Collect your ice, then care for the circulating water
For ice you want to keep, transfer finished batches to a suitable freezer container. Leaving them in a nonfreezing basket gives the machine more water to recycle; it does not build a lasting frozen supply.
The water path still needs care even when melting is expected. Follow your machine's water-change instructions, and turn it off and unplug it before hand-cleaning permitted parts. Newair's care guidance calls for hand-washing plastic accessories, rinsing them completely and allowing them to dry. It keeps those parts out of the dishwasher and rules out sharp tools and abrasives.
For confirmed mineral deposits or everyday buildup, GOHALL ice machine cleaner tablets are an option only for a compatible dedicated standalone machine whose manufacturer permits the cleaner and method. They do not keep stored ice frozen or repair a cooling fault. These Newair examples do not establish approval for GOHALL, and the current GOHALL listing does not confirm nickel-safe compatibility.
Our standalone ice-maker cleaner and rinse guide covers that compatibility decision. Complete every required rinse and discard ice made during cleaning before serving another batch. GOHALL tablets are excluded from refrigerator and freezer ice makers.
Taking a break from production? Remove the ice and follow the model-specific drain and storage procedure. Meltwater returning to the reservoir is not the same as draining it.
Questions about melting ice
Is water below the basket a leak?
In a machine designed to return meltwater to its reservoir, water there can be expected. Water escaping onto the counter or reaching controls is a different issue. Pause use and follow the model's leak and electrical-safety instructions; do not dismiss an external leak as normal melting.
Can I put countertop-made ice in my freezer?
Yes. Newair recommends moving finished ice to a freezer when you need to store it. That is different from using a cleaning tablet in a freezer's built-in ice maker, which GOHALL's product excludes.
