In this guide
TL;DR: To clean a pet water fountain, unplug it, remove the filters, and wash the basin, tubes, and approved pump parts by the model's instructions. Rinse or replace filters only as their separate instructions allow, keeping them out of cleaning solution. Rinse the washed parts thoroughly, reassemble the fountain, and refill it with fresh drinking water. A basin-only wash can leave residue farther along the water route; a cleaner cycle does not replace that physical care.
Check cleaner compatibility for the basin, tubes, and pump
GOHALL pet water fountain cleaner tablets help lift everyday residue from compatible fountains and removable parts. Check the fountain maker's allowed cleaning products and the material of each part before making a solution. A stainless-steel bowl does not establish compatibility for a plastic tube, rubber seal, or pump.
If the manual names only a particular cleaner or method, use that method or ask the manufacturer about an alternative. PetSafe's Pagoda instructions, for example, describe mild dish soap and warm water for the bowl and tower, with a separate vinegar treatment for specified buildup. That example does not authorize a GOHALL tablet for the model. A cleaning result does not establish disinfection; the GOHALL fountain listing makes no disinfecting claim. The guide to cleaning and disinfecting explains the difference.
Unplug, empty, and separate the fountain
Keep pets away from the workspace and provide drinking water separately while their fountain is out of use. Unplug it with dry hands before removing parts, then empty the old water. Follow the assembly diagram for the top, filter tray, tube, and pump. Photograph the arrangement if it will help you put everything back correctly.
Remove filters before cleaner reaches the parts. Set a reusable filter aside only when its instructions allow reuse; replace one that is due for replacement. Keep the power adapter, plug, cable connections, and other parts meant to stay dry out of water and cleaning solution. Use the pump’s own approved cleaning method; permission for a cleaning cycle does not authorize a separate soak of the assembled pump.
Wash the basin and brush the approved tubes and openings
Wipe or brush accessible residue from the removable basin, top, and tray with the soft tools and washing method permitted for their materials. Use the fountain maker’s method for parts that do not permit GOHALL cleaner.
Clean approved removable tubes and openings with a suitable small brush. Physical brushing reaches residue a broad wipe misses; do not force a brush through a fitting. Thoroughly rinse every washed part before reassembly.
Clean only the pump pieces shown for owner access
Look for the pump-cleaning drawing rather than treating the housing as one solid piece. Some models allow removal of a cover, impeller cap, and impeller so you can reach the small well inside. Only remove the pieces shown for your pump.
For the Catit PIXI Mini, Catit directs owners to brush debris from the impeller, its well, and the pump housing, rinse the pump parts thoroughly, and reassemble. PetSafe's Pagoda has a different faceplate, stator, and impeller arrangement. Neither set of instructions is permission to run cleaning solution through an assembled fountain or immerse its electrical components.
Rinse or replace filters by their separate instructions
PetSafe's Stainless Multi-Pet instructions allow water rinsing of some not-heavily-soiled carbon and foam filters and prohibit soap or cleaning solutions on them. Use the instructions for your filter, including any rinse or soak required for a new one. A cleaning tablet does not reset its replacement schedule.
If black specks appear after fitting a new carbon filter, check its preparation before choosing another cleaning cycle. PetSafe's Multi-Tier instructions call for a thorough cold-water rinse to remove loose carbon dust; other models specify a different rinse or soak. Our new-filter preparation guide compares those instructions. Keep the filter out of cleaner, and ask the fountain maker about particles that persist after correct preparation. Their color alone does not identify the residue.
Use the GOHALL cleaning cycle only when the model permits it
GOHALL’s current directions describe a circulating cleaning process. Use it only when your exact fountain maker permits this cleaner and powered process for the parts that contact the solution. If the model allows only its named soap, vinegar, or other method, follow that method or get approval before substituting. Keep the filter out and pets away throughout cleaning and rinsing.
Measure the cleaning water you will use, then choose the tablet count from the table. At 3.2 L, for example, use one tablet. The listed range is 1 to 16 L; contact GOHALL support before using the cleaner for a volume below 1 L or above 16 L. The fountain's stated drinking-water capacity does not replace that measurement. Check the current box and resolve any conflict with the fountain's requirements before starting.
| Cleaning-water volume | Unwrapped tablets |
|---|---|
| 1 L to under 4 L | 1 tablet |
| 4 L to under 7 L | 2 tablets |
| 7 L to under 12 L | 3 tablets |
| 12 to 16 L | 4 tablets |
- With the fountain off and unplugged during preparation, remove the tablet wrappers, add the directed number of tablets and warm water, and wait 3 minutes for them to dissolve. Keep the solution inaccessible to pets.
- Refit parts only as the model requires for its permitted circulating-cleaner process, leaving filters out. Keep hands, the plug, adapter, and cable connections dry before reconnecting power. Run the fountain for 15 to 20 minutes, then drain the cleaning solution completely by the model’s method. Switch off and unplug before separating parts for draining.
- Rinse with fresh water 2 to 3 times in total, including the first rinse. For each rinse, run the fountain for 2 minutes, then switch off, unplug and drain. Rinse until no residue remains, and complete any additional rinses required by the model. Discard all cleaning and rinse water. Never leave cleaner in water your pet will drink.
Refill only after rinsing and reassembly
After the final rinse, wipe accessible surfaces by the model’s permitted method. Fit the cleaned pump, tube, and tray in their specified positions, install the correctly prepared filter, and fill with fresh drinking water to the model's marked level. Keep the plug and adapter dry before reconnecting power. Watch the first run for leaks and correct flow.
If flow is weak, switch off and check water level, part seating, the pump's accessible residue, and the filter. PetSafe identifies those checks for its Seaside fountain. If the pump is also louder than usual, use the fountain pump-noise checks. If the permitted checks do not resolve the problem, ask the manufacturer for help instead of leaving a malfunctioning fountain running. Keep pets away until cleaning, rinsing, fresh-water refilling, and proper operation are complete.
If slick film returns soon after cleaning, the recurring fountain-residue guide helps trace the pump, tube, and filter-tray surfaces.
Pet fountain cleaning questions
Can I leave the filter in while using a cleaning tablet?
Remove it first. Clean the fountain parts by their own instructions, then rinse or replace the filter as its maker directs. For PetSafe's Stainless Multi-Pet Fountain, the carbon and foam filters must not be washed with soap or cleaning solution.
How much water and how many GOHALL tablets should I use?
Use the table above for the measured volume of cleaning water. The current directions start at one tablet for 1 L to under 4 L and end at four tablets for 12 to 16 L. For a volume below 1 L or above 16 L, contact GOHALL support before use. Confirm that your fountain permits this cleaner and process, then follow the box's dissolution, cleaning, and rinse directions.
Does the same schedule work for every fountain?
No. Use your model's fountain, pump, and filter schedules, which can differ from one another. Clean sooner when visible residue returns or the filter needs attention.
