TL;DR: A coating chip, a rust stain and a broken rack wire need different responses. Check your dishwasher maker's repair or replacement guidance before buying another cleaner. A cleaning tablet cannot restore missing coating or rebuild a broken tine.
Look at the coating and the wire underneath
With the dishwasher off and cool, remove the dishes and look at the affected area in good light. Photograph it without scraping, bending or breaking off a tine to test it. Keep dishes off a rack with sharp, broken or unstable supports while you ask the manufacturer about the correct replacement.
A brown mark alone does not establish that the rack is corroding. GE identifies several sources of rust staining, including items washed in the machine and the water supply. Our dishwasher interior-staining guide covers that broader question. Visible missing coating or damaged wire needs a repair decision.
Repair permission depends on the manufacturer
Whirlpool: a kit for eligible chips and scratches
Whirlpool's rack-damage guidance says its repair kits can cover chips and scratches on rack tines. It also explains that nicked or cracked coating can expose metal that rusts. Check the specified kit and its instructions for your appliance before treating a spot. That permission does not turn a coating kit into a replacement for missing wire.
GE: replacement when rack rust is extensive
GE's rust-staining guidance recommends replacing racks when rusting becomes extensive. A treatment that lightens a stain elsewhere in the tub does not replace that damaged rack. Ask GE to assess the affected part if you cannot tell how much of it has deteriorated.
Cove: check whether the damaged component is separate
Cove's rack-repair guidance says some adjustable tines and other components may be available separately. It recommends a replacement rack for worn, missing or rusting coating, and describes a vinyl repair alternative. Ask its parts distributor which route fits your model and damage; do not transfer one brand's repair permission to another.
Match the part before removing the rack
Have the full dishwasher model number, a picture of the damage and the rack position ready when contacting support. Confirm whether the order is for a removable component or the complete rack, and follow that model's removal and reinstallation instructions. Similar dimensions or the same coating color do not establish fit.
If the problem is a rack that catches or drops on one side, use the separate rack, wheel and rail checks. Recoating a tine will not secure a failed adjuster or track stop.
Where an empty-machine cleaning cycle fits
After the damage is resolved and the dishwasher is intact and operating normally, GOHALL Dishwasher Cleaner & Deodorizer Tablets can address supported food residue, detergent buildup and limescale in a compatible household dishwasher. They are not a rack coating or repair material.
Confirm that the appliance permits the cleaner. GOHALL's current directions require an empty machine, one unwrapped tablet in the detergent dispenser and no dish detergent or other cleaner. Use Normal or an approved machine-cleaning cycle, then let the interior air-dry with the door open when safe. The empty-cycle guide covers the full method and separate filter care.
Questions about damaged rack coating
Can I cover a broken tine with a repair cap?
A cap does not rebuild the missing support. Ask for the correct component or rack replacement rather than concealing broken wire.
Does a self-cleaning cycle prove what caused the damage?
No. A photograph after a cycle does not establish when or why the coating failed. Record the damage and model number so the manufacturer can assess it.
Should I copy another owner's paint and drying time?
Use only the repair material and complete application instructions approved for your dishwasher. A generic paint recommendation or another model's waiting period does not establish that a repaired rack is ready to use.
