TL;DR: Before treating dishwasher-door streaks, confirm the exterior finish. GE's fingerprint-resistant stainless has a clear coat and uses mild soapy water with a soft cloth, followed by drying. Its instructions exclude stainless-steel cleaners. An interior cleaning tablet is a separate job and cannot repair the door coating.
Check the finish name before choosing a stainless cleaner
A stainless-looking door can have a protective finish with different care rules. Find the full model number and the finish description in its product information or manual. A clean-looking patch after wiping does not establish which cleaner the rest of the door permits.
GE's U.S. GDT650SYVFS has this fingerprint-resistant stainless finish. GE describes a clear coat over the metal. Check the matching exterior instructions for this model.
For GE's fingerprint-resistant stainless, use its clear-coat method
Use mild soap and warm water on a clean, soft cloth or microfiber cloth. Wipe dry with another clean, soft cloth to limit streaking and water spots. Keep stainless-steel cleaners, abrasives, bleach, ammonia, window sprays, vinegar, oven cleaners and acidic or alkaline cleaners off this finish. GE also excludes abrasive cloths and paper towels.
Work on the exterior with the dishwasher off and the door cool. Keep the door panel, handle and controls assembled. Use the permitted surface method rather than scouring harder because a mark remains.
GE has no approved method to cover heavy or clearly visible scratches in this finish. Send support your model number and a photo of an unresolved mark.
Ordinary stainless and the control panel have their own instructions
GE's ordinary stainless-door guidance permits its named stainless cleaner or a similar product with a clean, soft cloth. For those stainless doors, GE also rules out appliance wax, polish, bleach and chlorine-containing products. That recommendation is not the fingerprint-resistant method above. For a different brand or finish, check its matching manual before buying a cleaner.
For the dishwasher's control panel and trim, GE directs a soft, lightly dampened cloth and thorough drying, with a little dish soap on the cloth if needed. A door-cleaner recommendation does not automatically cover buttons, a display or trim. Keep liquid confined to the cloth instead of flooding seams or openings.
If the streak is inside the dishwasher
Photograph the location before switching products. The outer door, the inside lower lip and gasket, and the tub have different care tasks. Our interior-staining guide separates food staining, residue and rust checks.
GOHALL Dishwasher Cleaner & Deodorizer Tablets address supported food residue, detergent buildup and limescale inside compatible household dishwashers. Their empty-cycle directions do not authorize wiping the exterior with tablet solution or making a cleaning paste. Keep them out of the finish-care job. For an eligible interior treatment, follow the separate empty-cycle procedure, using the cleaner alone and completing the model's requirements.
Question about door and control care
Can I use the door cleaner on the control panel too?
Check the control-panel instructions separately. GE's cited method uses a lightly dampened soft cloth followed by thorough drying, rather than extending its stainless-door cleaner recommendation to the controls.
